50 reasons

Aki the tiger gave me a new question.

'What are you living for?'

When I was still studying in INTEC, my usual answer was the one and only: 'to bring joy and laughter to people.'

But now, I have a list of answers to this.

1. to taste all kinds of food - Japanese, Italian, French, Korean, Mexican...
2. to learn what it all takes to be a medical student, and a doctor in future.

15. to let my friends feel appreciated coz I love them. =)
16. to know that angels exist, just that you don't see them.
17. to read my friends' blogs so that they know that there's someone who will drop comment!
18. to be addicted to chocolates and ice cream. (Not yet, luckily)

k a r a O K e

Just now we planned to discuss about choosing the locations for our rural placement in Yeu Sheng's room, but we ended up singing karaoke!! (We did discuss about the important stuff and transfer photos la of course) We sang a lot of songs...from the oldies by Teressa Teng, Jacky Cheung, some songs which are famous but I don't know who sang them, some Cantonese songs and some Jay's songs. We probably got so excited that we sang too loud, even Cheng Khoon said that he could hear our voice from his room (was he exaggerating?)...it's been a waaaaay long time since I last sang songs with friends, and I miss the times when we went to sing karaoke in KL...

Tomorrow is Anzac Day and it's a public holiday, so no classes. Today was a tiring day - we had classes from 8am to 6pm! First it was two-hour lecture in the morning, then I went for a library class till 12pm, then rushed for my injecting tutorial (yay we learnt how to inject people!!) till 1.30pm, then walked back to campus centre to have my lunch...and another tutorial called Health Enhancement Program from 3 to 5pm, and a replacement lecture from 5 to 6pm. Such a hectic day! I did relax myself during the HEP tutorial when our tutor asked us to close our eyes as she guided us through the muscle tension and relaxation process...we were asked to focus on our breathing, tensed our muscles and then relaxed them, visualised ourselves in a nice place such as by the river. I like this class coz we can close our eyes and relax ourselves...luckily didn't fall asleep, haha..

By the way, I read Siew Ting's blog...did I really repeat that 880908 so many times when I barely knew her that day two years ago?? Hmmm...interesting...hehe..

Anyway this is what Chean Ying and I bought..

85 cm doggies! Left: Boy boy (Chean Ying's), right: Girl girl (mine)

So cute right? Especially their eyes, and they are so fluffy! Hope that $20 is not too expensive since the original price was $40, hehe..

Now my room is more lively!

eXam's oVer!

We celebrated Calvin's birthday last Friday night. Initially we planned to 'sabotage' him but we failed as he knew of our plans. He and Yu Wan followed the church to Deakin University for some function that night and the rest of us waited at the 'jetty' at 10.30pm. We merely chatted and played our childhood games since there wasn't anything we could do except to wait for them to come back.

Few minutes before 12 they came back, Daniel Lee and Christina joined in the celebration too. All of us sat down at the jetty in a circle with Calvin and his cake in the middle. Chau Wang brought down that jelly-surface cheese cake Yu Wan bought and we counted down to 12am. 'Five..Four...Three..Two...One!' Just then Yu Wan said, 'STOP!! What are we supposed to do?' We laughed out loud while Cheng Khoon said, 'Sing birthday song la!!!' Aiyo...our princess was so innocent.. =.=

As usual, we sang song, took pictures, Calvin cut the cake and distributed to everyone..and the last part was the same as Ryan's birthday celebration - the 'meeting' part. Each of us had to ask Calvin a question and he had to answer it truthfully. First was Yu Wan's question. 'What makes you think it's beautiful of the stars when you look at them in the sky?' There were some other general questions such as 'What do you want to know/learn during this 20th year of your life?' and 'Is the cake nice??' and 'Do you think it's cold?' etc...and one 'geng' one asked by our 大姐, 'Why do you love Siaw Tze?' WOW WOW WOW~~!!! We immediately said, 'Wait, stop, don't say anything yet...we want to record this down...' hahaha! Then he began to say...with many pauses in between...(sorry Aki I don't feel like writing them here, hehe..)

It's about 1am when we were about to go back as Shea Chuen came up with another 'surprise'. He lost his keys! We searched everywhere possible where his keys might have dropped..Calvin went back to his room to get a torchlight while Chau Wang used his Motorola handphone which had a bright light, and we shone those lights down to the lake between the planks of the jetty...while the others kept looking around the grass only with the aid of the moonlight and the lampost yellow light. Just then, Shea Chuen said, 'I found it!!' We quickly asked, 'WHERE??' And we realised that the keys really dropped to the water below the jetty. Luckily the water wasn't deep, and now we had another problem - how to get it out from the planks. Daniel suggested wire, hanger and short branches or twigs to hook the keys out. So he searched for some twigs while Yu Wan took a hanger from her room. With much effort and patience, the keys were finally hooked out! Voila~ This is what I called 'Team Work'!

In the process of hooking the keys up..

Tada!! The keys~

Great job, everyone!

my other interest besides drawing & poster colouring..

It's till I came to Australia that I realise I have the cooking talent in me. I'm not saying that I'm good in cooking coz I'm still a beginner...what I mean is that I enjoy cooking. A lot. Easier than studying anyway. Just grab any vegie or meat or egg or whatever edible, cut them into pieces, heat up the oil, add garlics or onions and stir-fry them with salt and sauce! Any idea that you have may turn up to be a good and delicious dish, haha~ but I don't have any new ideas right now. Anyone have any ideas?

Last week I helped and taught Yu Wan to fry kangkung. Maybe you would think, fry?! It's a vegie! But yes, it's frying the vegie...with corn flour of course. I got the idea from the Thai restaurant in KB which I used to go with my family. Fried kangkung is a famous dish there, besides tom yam, 'chicken on fire' etc... (geez, I'm hungry now) =P Anyway Yu Wan and me fried some of the kangkung (due to time constrain we stir-fry the rest of teh vegie) and she brought the food to her Care group. Later that night she came back and 'reported' to me, 'They said that your kangkung is nice!' Wahaha...I was so glad to hear that coz it's my first time frying kangkung...luckily kangkung is available in Clayton; we have been searching for it for a very long time.

Next thing I'm going to learn - frying fish! In the more complicated way like my mom used to cook la...

I love that video..

Few days ago I was so happy when I saw this...

It's rare to see her online in MSN nowadays.

Anyway, Siew Ting sent Conney and me the link of the video she made which she uploaded on YouTube. Watching it made me miss those unforgettable and fun moments we shared during our life in Akasia. (Click here for the link) And she even said that the purpose of the video is to make us miss her more....haha!

I felt that we didn't learn much this week coz we missed a few lectures. Due to the blackout in uni on Monday, and that power was not restored to mostly our faculty buildings on Tuesday and Wednesday, classes were cancelled. Though it seemed 'favourable' that we were able to get more time off to study for the mid sem exam (which we had just now), it actually meant that we would have to replace those lectures next week (and perhaps the week after)! Two workers even got injured while checking the electricity problem, I felt sorry for them. Just hope that it's nothing too serious and that they recover soon. The consequences of not having lectures for this week were obvious; most of us were just merely wasting time during Syndicate (2 hours of Syndicate and we spent one and a half hours talking). I heard that many didn't attend tutorials too. Everybody got tensed up studying for exam, but I just felt that I didn't have the 干劲 to study. Cramming all those sociology and HEP stuff into my mind is not a good idea since I don't have the interest in them. But we have to study those...

1st time blackout!

Today is the first time uni got blackout! First in the morning the air cond was not working in the R1 lecture theatre, and when we had our PCL in the CMHSE building I thought that the air cond there would be working fine but turned out it didn't. The projector in the lecture theatre was not working either. After lunch, we had our stakeholder tute in the S lecture theatres...then suddenly the lights went off, and everyone had class outside - yes, on the grass or the concrete road. This is the only day you can see students sitting in group on the grass listening to what the stakeholder has to say while enjoying the breeze of the cold wind..brrr!

It was then announced that uni was closed for the day....and the lecture in the afternoon was canceled. Hooray!

Luckily we have electricity at Roberts Hall. Later the Deakin people and the Horrer (pronounced Horror = Farrer + Howitt) people would be coming to our Roberts Kitchen to cook dinner, since they don't have electricity at their halls..haha~

Moral: Electricity is so important in our lives, so we should not waste it...turn off lights whenever possible, use a clothes horse instead of dryer..bla bla bla...this is what the notices around the halls say..

开学。。。

This is so my dad.

Part of the email I received from my dad:

''I found out that the Aussies call papaya "pawpaw". You should eat more pawpaw. According to a book I borrowed from the library, pawpaw is a miracle fruit. In fact it is more nutritious to eat it when it is still green and about to turn yellow. Can eat as salad. Better to eat with the skin, if possible as the skin contains some very special enzymes. The leaves also can be eaten as they also contain some special enzyme to help digestion of protein and prevent constipation. The seeds also should be ground and eaten.''

Anyway, today started off with a surprise from Chien. First, before both of us came to Australia, she told me that she would come to Melbourne in April (with her senior or friend sth like that). Then last week she said that she could not make it, and I saw from the chatbox at her blog that Janet would be going to Adelaide to meet her during this Easter break instead. AND, yesterday I was chatting with Chien and she told me Janet was back in Melbourne already...halfway through chatting Janet called me to ask something. I asked her about Adelaide and somehow she said she just got back yesterday. THEN...this morning Janet called me again saying she's at the MRS operation office and asked me where I was. Since the office is just near to my room, I went downstairs to meet her. Suddenly Chien appeared! I was speechless...she flew from Adelaide?! I just couldn't believe my eyes...

good Friday

Zhi Han and Ling Sing came to visit us yesterday. They were staying overnight at Chean Ying and Yeu Sheng's room. They arrived at Deakin Hall in the afternoon and we brought them upstairs to put their bags and have a chat before we decided on our plans. Ryan came and Nooi Hoay brought down two packets of snacks. We then decided to head to the pond to see the ducks and then to uni to show them the place. As we walked downstairs of Deakin Hall, Chau Wang who was downstairs shook hands with Zhi Han and Ling Sing while saying, 'Welcome to Clayton.' OMG...that made us laugh coz he sounded like an ambassador!

So, yeah, we fed the ducks with some of the snacks...it's fun to feel the duck's beak poking the small bit of snack from your hand. We took some pictures then walked to the Monash Sports Centre before heading to uni. There were a lot of Pakistani-like people at the big field, it seemed that some sports event was going on. As expected, there were not one person sighted at campus coz it's Good Friday. We showed them our lecture theatres, the Robert Menzies building which has rumours that it would shake when the wind blows strongly, the campus centre, Engineering Precinct and our CMHSE - that stands for Centre for Medical & Health Sciences Education, it's where we have our tutorials and PCL classes.

Evening came and we decided to have dinner outside. The 11 of us (including Justina, Shea Chuen and Yun Ying) walked to a Chinese restaurant not far from our halls. It was cold at night and most of us were clutching tightly to our jackets. After that we went back and 'inspect' each of our rooms...starting from Farrer Hall, Howitt Hall and then to Roberts Hall. Yun Ying said my room 'looks like a room'...hehe..I took that as a compliment~

By the way, happy belated to my dear friend Jen Yun! You owe me a treat =P (that's what you said yesterday!)

=)=)=)=)=)

I was reading through my study guide on tomorrow's Ethics tutorial....and I came across this sentence:

'...within friendships, we often accept that we must care for friends in times of adversity, even if we have not made some kind of contract to do so.' (pg 17, Week 6A & 6B Study Guide)

Yes, friends care....and friends share. I care when my friend is sick. I care when my friend is sad. I care when my friend has a problem in studies. I care when my friend has lost something which he or she values a lot. And I share the joyful moments with my friends. I enjoy being together with them. I hope they feel the same way as I do. =)

This is what friends are for~

i N d e p e N d e N c e

Today marks the day that Yu Wan, Chau Wang and me gained independence. Haha! That's the word that Cheng Khoon started to use anyway, 'independence'....saying that we are free to cook in our common kitchen from tomorrow onwards. Finally our locker problem settled. So, no more 'Chean Ying, come down and open the door for me', no more 'today we all cook or you all cook?', no more 'oh I don't have enough rice', no more hearing Yeu Sheng saying 'yeah, it's eating apple time!', and most importantly (to Deakin people), no Yu Wan to wash the plates for them...hehe!

Easter break starts at 10am tomorrow. Wheee~!! BUT....we have our mid semester exam after the break! That means we have to study study and study....sigh..

Sunday, April 01, 2007

happY April's Fool!

Today's April Fool. But nobody got fooled...and I didn't fool anybody. Well apart from the joke those Deakin people made about the ice cream though...poor Nooi Hoay (or Chau Wang?) Just didn't know that who got fooled...and Nooi Hoay said that it's not fun at all, coz it's not really surprising...haiz..what a day..

I actually laughed out reading Jia Huei's blog when I saw the pictures of my friends making ghost faces..haha...couldn't stand it...

I'm looking forward to the Easter break next week...we'll have one week break, haha! So envy that those at Perth have 2 weeks break >.<>

We have a mock exam next Tuesday, and I heard some people saying that most of the questions would cover sociology, culture and stuff like that...sigh...if all exams are going to be like this, then cham lo...
